[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] President Moon Jae-in has approved the declaration of special disaster zones for five cities and counties: Gangneung, Inje, and Goseong in Gangwon Province, and Pohang and Gyeongju in Gyeongsangbuk Province. President Moon also approved the declaration of special disaster zones for 19 towns, townships, and neighborhoods including Gijang-eup in Gijang County, Busan, and Bongpyeong-myeon in Pyeongchang County, Gangwon Province.
Im Se-eun, deputy spokesperson of the Blue House, said on the 23rd, "President Moon Jae-in approved today the second declaration of special disaster zones for five cities and counties and 19 towns, townships, and neighborhoods affected by Typhoon No. 9 and Typhoon No. 10."
The newly designated special disaster zones include five cities and counties: Gangneung, Inje, and Goseong in Gangwon Province, and Pohang and Gyeongju in Gyeongsangbuk Province. Additionally, 19 towns, townships, and neighborhoods were declared special disaster zones, including Gijang-eup and Ilgwang-myeon in Gijang County, Busan; Daepo-dong in Sokcho City, Gangwon Province; Bongpyeong-myeon, Jinbu-myeon, and Daegwallyeong-myeon in Pyeongchang County, Gangwon Province; Cheongsong-eup, Juwangsan-myeon, Bunam-myeon, and Pacheon-myeon in Cheongsong County, Gyeongsangbuk Province; Yeongyang-eup, Ilwol-myeon, and Subi-myeon in Yeongyang County, Gyeongsangbuk Province; Dongbu-myeon and Jangpyeong-dong in Geoje City, Gyeongsangnam Province; Sangbuk-myeon in Yangsan City, Gyeongsangnam Province; Sangju-myeon and Nam-myeon in Namhae County, Gyeongsangnam Province; and Aewol-eup in Jeju City, Jeju Province.
Deputy Spokesperson Im said, "President Moon instructed a meticulous investigation down to the town, township, and neighborhood level to ensure no area is neglected and to designate special disaster zones before Chuseok." He added, "Measures will be taken to ensure early damage recovery and restoration so that people can return to their daily lives in a stable manner."
Meanwhile, a Blue House official said regarding the possibility of additional special disaster zone designations, "Currently, there are no plans scheduled."
