Japanese Media: "President Moon and Japan's Suga Coordinating First Phone Talk on 24th"

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyeon-jin] Fuji News Network (FNN), a Japanese private broadcaster, reported on the 23rd that Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide is coordinating to hold his first phone conversation with President Moon Jae-in since taking office on the 24th.

FNN stated that this will be the first official dialogue between the leaders of South Korea and Japan since the Korea-China-Japan summit held in China last December. FNN also reported that during the meeting, Prime Minister Suga is expected to offer his inauguration greetings and request cooperation to resolve the issue of North Korea’s abduction of Japanese citizens.

According to Japanese government officials, FNN reported that in this meeting, there will likely not be in-depth interaction regarding issues surrounding the forced labor compensation rulings and Japan’s strengthened export controls against South Korea.
