Government Decides to Provide 150,000 Won Support to Middle School-Aged Children in 4th Supplementary Budget
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 23rd that middle school students will be excluded from the recipients of the education disaster relief fund.
Initially, the 4th supplementary budget bill submitted by the government to the National Assembly stipulated support only for preschool children and elementary school students, so Gwangju City decided to provide an 'education disaster relief fund' of 100,000 KRW per person to middle, high school, and university students who were excluded from government support.
However, the government, through an agreement between the ruling and opposition floor leaders regarding the 4th supplementary budget the day before, expanded support to include school-age children in middle school, providing 200,000 KRW for preschool children and elementary school students, and 150,000 KRW for middle school students as non-face-to-face learning support funds.
Accordingly, Gwangju City decided to exclude middle school students to avoid overlap with government support and proceed with support for other eligible recipients as planned.
