[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in emphasized the importance of a 'Declaration of the End of the War' in his keynote speech at the United Nations General Assembly, while the People Power Party pointed out that such a declaration is neither possible nor meaningful amid North Korea's provocations.

Yoon Hee-seok, spokesperson for the People Power Party, said in a statement on the 23rd, "There is no more certain declaration of the end of the war than denuclearization."

He stated, "The president mentioned the declaration of the end of the war one year and two months ago as well. However, there are many doubts about how useful the card of a declaration of the end of the war would be in the current situation on the Korean Peninsula," adding, "Despite the Moon Jae-in administration's unconditional courting, North Korea fired shots at our GP and blatantly blew up the Inter-Korean Joint Liaison Office, a symbol of inter-Korean reconciliation."

Spokesperson Yoon pointed out, "There have even been reports suggesting that North Korea and Iran have resumed cooperation on long-range missiles," and said, "The once noisy North Korea-US negotiations have effectively collapsed. In this situation, a declaration of the end of the war is neither possible nor meaningful."

Yoon criticized, "Despite the public enduring countless provocations and threats from North Korea, the Moon Jae-in administration has been preoccupied with defending North Korea, claiming that 'not a single armed clash has occurred between the two Koreas,'" and asked, "What on earth is the reason for this frightening obsession?"

He added, "Inter-Korean reconciliation and lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula are everyone's hope, but peace will never come without 'complete denuclearization,'" and said, "We urgently need a practical plan to achieve denuclearization, not an empty political declaration."
