Meat Vending Machine Installed in Shop-in-Shop Format
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Convenience store Ministop announced on the 23rd that it has introduced a meat vending machine where fresh meat products can be purchased 24 hours a day. This introduction of the meat vending machine was made in the form of a shop-in-shop, with the meat vending machine operated by the fresh food platform Fresh Store being installed in Ministop.
With the introduction of the meat vending machine, Ministop is now able to provide customers with an environment where fresh meat products can be purchased regardless of time. In particular, fresh meat products can be purchased late at night or early in the morning when large supermarkets or butcher shops are closed. The products in the meat vending machine are supplied by Meatbox, a livestock direct transaction platform, allowing customers to purchase them at reasonable prices.
The meat vending machine handles both refrigerated and frozen products, offering various cuts including pork neck, pork belly, and even Iberico pork. Additionally, it is packaged in small portions to cater to the main customer base of convenience stores, which are one- to three-person households. The meat vending machine is designed with transparent glass so that customers can visually confirm the freshness of the meat products before purchasing.
Ministop plans to start testing the meat vending machine at the Jangan Jangpyeong branch located in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, and then expand it further.
Oh Seung-kyo, team leader of the Ministop Development Planning Team, said, “Although meat products are not the main products in convenience stores, we judged that there is sufficient potential customer base and demand, which led us to introduce Fresh Store’s meat vending machine. We expect it to provide convenience to customers and generate additional revenue for store owners.”
