Gwangju Gwangsan-gu Council Holds 'Green New Deal and Win-Win Food Activation Seminar'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangsan District Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City (Chairman Lee Young-hoon) announced on the 23rd that it held a policy seminar on the 22nd titled “Exploring Green New Deal and Win-Win Food Activation Measures for Resident-Led Local Circulation Win-Win Policy Preparation.”

The seminar was the first official activity since the formation of the council’s research group this month, the “Urban Planning Research Group for Green New Deal and Sustainable Development” (hereinafter referred to as the “Green New Deal Research Group”), and was presided over by Representative Jo Ye-oim.

About 10 people attended, including members of the Green New Deal Research Group, presenters, discussants, and related public officials.

The seminar featured a presentation by Professor Yoon Byung-sun of Konkuk University titled “Understanding Win-Win Food Policies and Policy Measures,” followed by discussions led by Agricultural Meister Park Sang-pyo, Chairperson of the Gwangsan District Win-Win Food TF Team Choi Eun-soon, Co-Representative of the Win-Win Food Gwangju Citizens’ Coalition Kim Seok-soon, Director of the Citizen Happiness Development Center Ryu Dong-hoon, and Representative Jo Ye-oim.

Participants unanimously agreed that to build a sustainable local circular food plan in response to the climate crisis, the national and local governments must actively intervene in policies and revitalize public-private governance to strengthen the foundation for win-win food systems.

Additionally, opinions were gathered on the “Basic Ordinance on Win-Win Food Support,” which Representative Jo is preparing to propose as the lead sponsor. The ordinance is being prepared for enactment through meetings with the Gwangsan District Win-Win Food TF Team and is expected to be submitted at a future extraordinary session.

Representative Jo stated, “This was a meaningful time to deeply realize the importance of food plans in preparation for the food crisis and to share the need for food plans and public-private governance that reflect the concerns of local residents. I will strive to draft an ordinance for the establishment and implementation of a food plan suitable for Gwangsan District, a complex city of agriculture, industry, and urban areas, including securing farmland for stable market development and eco-friendly agriculture.”

Meanwhile, the Green New Deal Research Group of the Gwangsan District Council was formed for the purpose of researching Green New Deal policies, enacting ordinances, and studying urban planning measures for Gwangsan District. Representative Jo Ye-oim leads the group, with members Park Kyung-shin, Lee Gwi-soon, Kim Tae-wan, and Yoo Young-jong actively participating.
