KT "Safe Use of Public Facilities with Non-Face-to-Face Quarantine Platform"

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Suwon City on the 23rd to collaborate on a public convergence project based on 5G Mobile Edge Computing (MEC).

5G MEC is a technology that maximizes ultra-low latency. It is characterized by the ability to transmit and receive data without delay. Under this MOU, KT will build a contactless quarantine platform in Suwon City's public facilities, utilizing 5G's high speed and ultra-low latency to implement AI-based facial recognition, fever screening, and automatic access record management.

Once the contactless quarantine platform is established, access control will be automatically conducted based on facial recognition without the need for administrators to manually perform fever screening or access record checks. KT plans to develop a 'public contactless platform' targeting the public sector, based on intelligent edge life safety services.

KT will be responsible for developing the public contactless platform and solutions by leveraging ICT capabilities such as 5G, MEC, and AI. Suwon City will support the use of public facilities such as libraries, gyms, and kindergartens to enable KT to provide these solutions. To this end, KT will build and operate a dedicated 5G MEC infrastructure at network edge communication stations.

Jeon Hong-beom, Vice President and Head of KT AI/DX Convergence Business Division, said, “Starting with this MOU with Suwon City, we will provide safe convergence services based on 5G MEC in the public sector and further expand contactless quarantine services in the private sector. KT will continue to strive to minimize inconveniences for customers and citizens caused by COVID-19 by leveraging our differentiated communication network and ICT capabilities.”
