Prime Minister Jeong: "Speed of This Supplementary Budget Is Key... All Relevant Ministries Focused" (Update) Prime Minister Jeong Sye-kyun

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun on the 23rd stated, "Just as the first four minutes of response determine the life or death of a patient whose heart has stopped, the speed of this supplementary budget (추경) is crucial," and instructed for swift execution.

At the 49th Extraordinary Cabinet Meeting held at the Government Seoul Office on the same day, Prime Minister Chung emphasized, "This supplementary budget must act as cardiopulmonary resuscitation to save those in emergency situations."

On the 22nd, the National Assembly passed the 4th supplementary budget bill worth 7.8 trillion won, providing tailored support to groups affected by the resurgence of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

Prime Minister Chung urged, "Relevant ministries and agencies should concentrate all their capabilities to ensure that the public can receive support promptly," adding, "Greatly strengthen guidance and publicity on when and how much support can be received, and minimize procedures as much as possible."

He also requested, "Although trial and error is inevitable, please promptly resolve difficulties arising in the field to minimize inconvenience."

Prime Minister Chung mentioned, "We have made every effort to reduce blind spots, but unfortunately, there are people who will not receive help from this supplementary budget," and added, "Relevant ministries should actively inform about other government support measures besides the supplementary budget so that those in need can receive benefits in a timely manner."

He expressed, "This supplementary budget was prepared with great difficulty by borrowing," and stated, "It is true that it is not sufficient to fully recover the damages, but the government will do its utmost so that the people can spend Chuseok a little warmer and lay the stepping stones for recovery."
