AI Convergence Training for Distribution Industry Workers... AI Capability Enhancement Project Kicks Off

[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] On the 23rd, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it held a kickoff briefing and meeting for the Industrial Specialized Workforce Artificial Intelligence (AI) Capacity Building Project at Open Edge Technology, a semiconductor company.

The AI Capacity Building Project, part of the Korean New Deal, aims to promote digital transformation in the industry and maximize the outcomes of the Digital New Deal through AI convergence education for current employees. Target industries include defense, public safety, logistics and distribution, semiconductors, automotive and mobility, electronics and telecommunications, and manufacturing. The AI curriculum is designed to suit the characteristics of each industry. Both online courses and offline education using training centers of industry associations and industrial complexes will be provided.

The briefing was conducted via video conference using a domestically developed video conferencing solution, attended by 15 people including Vice Minister Jang Seok-young, representatives from six major industry associations, and demand companies. Vice Minister Jang urged interest in nurturing AI convergence talent to promote digital transformation across industries. He then listened to Open Edge Technology’s presentation on AI convergence cases in the industry and the necessity of re-education for current employees to accelerate convergence.

Lee Seong-hyun, CEO of Open Edge Technology, explained the development process of intelligent semiconductors, a representative AI convergence case in the semiconductor industry, and demonstrated the modeling process. He also emphasized, “To spread AI convergence in the industry, it is necessary to cultivate talent that meets the demands of each company,” adding, “For excellent AI convergence talent development, not only simple AI development and utilization capabilities but also knowledge and understanding of industry-specific characteristics are important.”

Vice Minister Jang stated, “The Industrial Specialized Workforce AI Capacity Building Project is an important initiative to innovate the economic structure based on digital new technologies such as artificial intelligence, which is the core of this Digital New Deal,” and added, “Based on the opinions discussed at this meeting, we will support the cultivation of personnel who can lead digital transformation and maximize the outcomes of the Digital New Deal.”
