[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics' third foldable phone, the 'Galaxy Z Fold2,' was officially released in South Korea on the 23rd. Due to pre-orders exceeding expectations, the release date was adjusted from the original 18th to this day.
The announced subsidies for the Galaxy Z Fold2 are set at ▲ SK Telecom 87,000 KRW to 170,000 KRW ▲ KT 86,000 KRW to 240,000 KRW ▲ LG Uplus 82,000 KRW to 227,000 KRW. KT offers the highest subsidy.
When purchasing the Galaxy Z Fold2 with an unlimited data plan in the 80,000 KRW range, the announced subsidy is 150,000 KRW. Choosing SK Telecom's 5GX Prime (89,000 KRW/month), KT's Super Plan Basic (80,000 KRW/month), or LG Uplus's 5G Smart (85,000 KRW/month) will grant a 150,000 KRW subsidy.
As a result of Samsung Electronics' pre-orders from the 11th to the 15th, the combined sales volume from carriers and unlocked devices exceeded 80,000 units. Due to the surge in pre-orders beyond expectations, Samsung extended the pre-activation period by five days until the 22nd. Encouraged by positive reviews, the number of release countries has doubled compared to the previous model, with plans to expand to about 80 countries by the end of October.
The Galaxy Z Fold2 is priced at 2,398,000 KRW and is released in Mystic Bronze and Black colors. It supports a larger 7.6-inch main screen and a 6.2-inch cover screen compared to its predecessor, as well as 'Flex Mode,' which allows the device to stand at the desired angle.
