Abundant Events at Traditional Markets, Gift Certificates for Purchases Over a Certain Amount... Special Quarantine Period Declared for Safe Shopping at Traditional Markets for Two Weeks (Sept 21?Oct 4)

Gangbuk-gu Traditional Market Launches Chuseok Promotion Event

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) has embarked on a dual mission to revitalize traditional markets and strengthen quarantine measures in celebration of Chuseok.

This initiative aims to promote consumption to support traditional markets, which have been stagnant due to COVID-19, along with operating a special quarantine period for Chuseok.

Five traditional markets in Gangbuk-gu will hold promotional events for Chuseok. Customers who purchase goods above a certain amount will receive gift certificates and souvenirs. Previously, the district accepted applications from local traditional markets to participate in the Chuseok holiday events.

At 'Suyu Market' and 'Suyu Traditional Market,' customers who purchase more than 30,000 KRW by September 26 can choose between cooking oil and an eco bag. At 'Suyu Jerae Market,' customers who spend over 20,000 KRW by the 25th will receive different items needed for table setting, such as pancake and frying powder and glass noodles, distributed according to the event day.

At 'Jangmiwon Alley Market,' customers who shop for more than 50,000 KRW by the 25th will receive a ticket to participate in the 'Spin the Wheel' event. Prizes include Onnuri gift certificates (5,000 to 10,000 KRW) and gift boxes. At 'Gangbuk General Traditional Market,' consumers with receipts over 30,000 KRW by the 23rd will receive a 5,000 KRW gift certificate. Souvenirs worth about 3,000 KRW will also be provided to all visitors to the market.

The Market Merchants Association and the district will tighten quarantine measures during the holiday period. From September 21, a two-week special quarantine week will be implemented, with dedicated personnel stationed at market entrances to check mask-wearing and fever symptoms. The district plans to conduct administrative guidance and surprise inspections during the holiday to ensure compliance with quarantine guidelines.

Additionally, to facilitate shopping for residents visiting the markets, temporary parking around traditional market roads will be allowed until October 4. Parking is limited to within two hours and excludes areas near fire facilities, crosswalks, bus stops, and entry/exit zones.

Mayor Park Kyum-soo of Gangbuk-gu said, “We are implementing more precise quarantine measures so that everyone can visit traditional markets with peace of mind. We hope many residents will participate in the Chuseok events and help revitalize the traditional markets.”
