Songpa-gu Selected as a UNESCO Global Learning City Finalist

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) announced on the 23rd that it has been selected as a member city of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (UNESCO GNLC) after final approval from the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) in Hamburg, Germany.

The UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, consisting of 230 cities from 64 countries, serves as an information exchange platform that promotes lifelong learning, economic and cultural prosperity, and sustainable development.

Going forward, Songpa-gu plans to exchange with GNLC member cities, share best practices, and establish a lifelong learning culture enjoyed by all residents.

Since the launch of the 7th local government administration, the district has focused its administrative capabilities on creating a lifelong learning city that improves quality of life through learning and grows together with the local community.

In particular, attention was drawn to the proactive response to educational gaps caused by COVID-19 by utilizing its own education support system, ‘Songpa Ssem’.

Additionally, the district received high evaluations for ▲providing learning opportunities throughout the life cycle through ‘Songpa Ssem,’ ▲creating a virtuous lifelong learning platform where individuals and learning communities share knowledge and experience, and ▲establishing educational infrastructure such as the Future Education Center, Character Library, and Education Portal.

Furthermore, this selection as a GNLC member city is a remarkable achievement following its designation as one of the ‘Top 5 Excellent Lifelong Learning Cities Nationwide in 2020’ by the Ministry of Education in May, internationally recognizing the excellence of ‘Songpa Ssem.’
