"My Life's Stain... Sorry to My Children"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Singer Pyeon Seung-yeop shared stories about his three divorces and three marriages.
Pyeon Seung-yeop appeared on TV Chosun's life documentary My Way (hereafter 'My Way') aired on the 21st.
On the broadcast, Pyeon Seung-yeop said, "My first marriage ended before the children started elementary school. I hadn't even entered the music industry; I was just starting out. My first wife disliked that I was a singer. I don't know why she disliked it. She wanted a divorce, but I said no, and then I accepted her wishes."
About his second wife, the late singer Gil Eun-jung, Pyeon Seung-yeop said, "She was really good. We just happened to meet at a celebrity event. Even now, I think she was really good. We dated for about two months, and she got sick and had surgery. From then on, we started living together before the wedding. After she recovered and we had the wedding, it was a short time together. We lived together for about four months. She got sick right after we met, so I took care of her a bit. That was all those few months were. But during those four months, that brief time was the biggest hardship in my life. From then on, my popularity faded, and my stages as a singer decreased. My finances worsened. And already about 20 years have passed," he revealed.
When Pyeon Seung-yeop and Gil Eun-jung separated, Gil Eun-jung held a press conference claiming she was a victim of a fraudulent marriage, and Pyeon Seung-yeop sued her for defamation and personal insult. The case was closed after Gil Eun-jung was found guilty, but she passed away from colon cancer in 2006.
Pyeon Seung-yeop had two children from his third marriage. He said, "I shouldn't have had that marriage," adding, "If that hadn't happened, my current wife could have lived an ordinary life."
He continued, "Regardless of my will, my intention or goal was not that (divorce). Divorce is a blot on my life and something I can never be proud of. It's embarrassing to my children and parents. But I lived diligently."
Pyeon Seung-yeop has one son and four daughters from his three marriages. On that day, he revealed his eldest daughter, son-in-law, and third daughter, attracting attention. In particular, it was revealed that his third daughter Pyeon Su-ji was formerly a member of the girl group BP Pop, which became a hot topic.
