[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Young-wook] Daegu Shinsegae announced on the 22nd that it delivered Onnuri gift certificates and winter heating expenses to support local partnered families in collaboration with Dong-gu Office, Jeil Christian Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, and Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation.

The event was organized to help those celebrating Chuseok and going through the seasonal change, despite the reduced attention to marginalized groups due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). On this day, Daegu Shinsegae prepared Onnuri gift certificates and heating expenses worth a total of 40 million KRW.

The Onnuri gift certificates, worth 100,000 KRW each and provided to a total of 300 households, will be distributed to marginalized families throughout Daegu via the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation. The heating expenses, prepared for 50 households at 200,000 KRW each, will be supported to elderly living alone and vulnerable groups in Dong-gu through the Jeil Christian Comprehensive Social Welfare Center.

Meanwhile, since its opening in 2016, Daegu Shinsegae has been carrying out various community-based social contributions such as supporting toy libraries, assisting partnered families, providing holiday support, supporting education at local children’s centers, employee talent donations, and delivering side dishes as volunteer work.

Baek Jae-seok, CEO of Daegu Shinsegae, said, “I believe this is a time when social interest in marginalized groups is more urgent due to COVID-19,” and added, “I hope the Onnuri gift certificates and heating expenses prepared this time will help make Chuseok abundant and warm.”
