Daejeon Next Year's Living Wage Set at 10,202 Won... Applicable to About 1,190 People

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The living wage hourly rate in Daejeon for next year has been set at 10,202 KRW. It is expected to apply to approximately 1,190 people.

According to Daejeon City on the 22nd, the living wage hourly rate for next year will increase by 152 KRW (1.5%) from this year's 10,050 KRW. This amount is 1,482 KRW (17%) higher than next year's minimum wage of 8,720 KRW announced by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

When converted to a monthly salary based on 209 working hours per month, the target workers will receive a total of 2,132,218 KRW. The applicable workers are fixed-term employees working at the city hall, invested and funded institutions, public corporations, and public enterprises.

The city finalized the living wage hourly rate after coordinating opinions through prior consultations with the city’s Living Wage Committee.

In determining the living wage hourly rate, factors such as the minimum wage increase rate, living wage levels in other cities and provinces, workers’ living expenses, wages of similar workers, and special economic conditions due to the spread of infectious diseases were considered.

Ko Hyun-duk, Director of the City’s Job and Economy Bureau, said, “The living wage is a wage policy that guarantees the actual livelihood of low-wage workers in the city’s public sector,” adding, “Next year’s living wage is the result of careful consideration for the lives of local workers.”
