President Moon urges measures at Cabinet meeting... Calls for increasing investigation personnel to broadly identify child abuse cases
[Asia Economy Reporters Ryu Jeong-min and Kim Dong-pyo] President Moon Jae-in has instructed to devise measures to institutionalize protection for abused children in relation to the case of elementary school brothers in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, who suffered burns while trying to cook ramen.
Kang Min-seok, the Blue House spokesperson, stated during a briefing at the Chuncheon Press Center on the 22nd, "At today's Cabinet meeting, President Moon Jae-in expressed his concern regarding the case of elementary school brothers in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, who suffered severe burns in a fire while trying to cook ramen together." he added.
President Moon said, "Cases where children do not receive adequate care at home and are neglected have come to light, causing pain to the hearts of all citizens. Please establish special measures such as increasing investigative personnel to broadly identify abuse cases."
President Moon added, "We must not stop at just countermeasures. In revealed cases, even when neighbors report seeing children being abused or neglected, the children are left in the care of their families following the parents' wishes, which leads to tragic outcomes. It is necessary to find appropriate ways to supplement the system, including measures to forcibly protect abused or neglected children until their situations are resolved."
Spokesperson Kang said, "Regarding the so-called 'ramen brothers' case, which many citizens feel deeply saddened about, President Moon has frequently expressed his sorrow. He has also received reports that public support continues for the two children. We earnestly hope that the two children recover their health soon and that the voices of encouragement from the public can be heard."
