[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Hapcheon County Council in Gyeongnam announced on the 22nd that it held an expert-invited training session for the activities of the Hapcheon Dam Damage Compensation Countermeasure Committee.
About 30 people, including County Governor Moon Jun-hee, executive officials, and residents, participated in the session.
The instructor in charge of the training, Park Il-seon, co-chairman of the National Dam Damage Overcoming Council, is an activist who has been conducting redevelopment of the Goesan Dam, campaigns to stop the construction of Dalcheon Dam, and efforts to block the hot spring leisure complex in Sogrisan, while researching and working on the current status of dams in Korea, the water industry, dam damage compensation, and activity directions.
The lecture was followed by various realistic Q&A sessions, and through this training, Governor Moon Jun-hee and the County Council shared various collected cases, activity experiences, trial and error, and discussed future activity directions.
The County Council has been carrying out various activities to receive compensation for damages caused by the release of water from Hapcheon Dam by the Korea Water Resources Corporation, and this expert-invited training was implemented as part of those efforts.
Chairman Bae Mong-hee said, “Although it is during the temporary session, we arranged this meeting to quickly resolve the urgent issue of compensation for damage caused by the release of water from Hapcheon Dam, which affects our residents. With Chuseok approaching and the economic downturn and COVID-19 making life difficult, the suffering from flood damage caused by dam discharge is increasing. I hope this will be a valuable opportunity to seek flood damage compensation measures as soon as possible.”
Governor Moon Jun-hee said in his greeting, “Today, members of the Residents’ Countermeasure Committee are actively working, including departing for Gurye in the morning,” and added, “If the residents unite as one and participate in healing the pain, there will surely be hope,” staying until the end of the session.
Meanwhile, the Hapcheon County Council plans to visit Geontae-ri in Ssangchaek-myeon and Yulgok-myeon, where the most damage from Hapcheon Dam discharge occurred, to hold resident meetings to share progress so far and discuss future plans.
