[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Canon is hosting the university student photo contest '2020 Future Artist Award' in collaboration with the Park Gunhee Cultural Foundation.

The Future Artist Award is a next-generation artist development program that discovers future photographers who will lead the photography and video fields in South Korea. Since 2007, Canon and the Park Gunhee Cultural Foundation have jointly hosted and organized this event annually. Marking its 14th edition this year, the Future Artist Award has produced a total of 51 winners.

The 2020 Future Artist Award contest is open to all university students nationwide, including those on leave of absence, regardless of their major. The application period is from November 10 to November 14. Applicants must submit unpublished photo works they created in JPG format (up to 10 pieces) and, if available, a video work on the same theme via a YouTube URL. Applications should be submitted by email including the work results, work notes, one certificate of enrollment, and the application form. The application form can be downloaded from the Park Gunhee Cultural Foundation website.

The first round of judging will select 9 candidates based on the submitted materials and portfolio. The second round candidates will be individually notified on November 24, and the final 3 winners will be selected through a second interview evaluation. The results will be announced on the Canon Korea Consumer Imaging website and the Park Gunhee Cultural Foundation website after the contest deadline.

The 3 selected winners will receive benefits worth a total of 60 million KRW. They will be awarded Canon’s new full-frame mirrorless camera ‘EOS R6’ and the ‘RF24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM’ lens as prizes. They will also have opportunities for one-on-one tutoring with photographers recommended by the judging committee and master tutoring by photographer Oh Hyunggeun. After six months of tutoring, their works will be exhibited at the ‘Future Artist Award Exhibition’ held at the Canon Gallery in April 2021. Detailed information about the 2020 Future Artist Award can be found on the event page of the Canon Korea Consumer Imaging website.
