Wando Coast Guard Implements 'Minor Crime Review Committee' Considering Socially Vulnerable Groups

[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] The Wando Maritime Police Station announced on the 22nd that on the 21st, the '2020 Minor Crime Review Committee' was held in the video conference room on the 3rd floor of the Wando Maritime Police Station, attended by a total of six internal and external members including Chief Park Je-su.

The review committee decided to issue warnings to two individuals who committed minor maritime crimes.

The 'Minor Crime Review Committee' is a system designed to strictly punish corporate and chronic crimes according to law and principles, while refraining from conventional criminal punishment for minor cases by reviewing whether to reduce penalties.

At the review committee held that day, an external review member appointment ceremony was held for former maritime police officer Kim Su-nam, lawyer Park Jeong-nam, and professor Hyeon Gwang-ryong. The committee reviewed two offenders: a 64-year-old male violating the Fisheries Vessel Act and a 65-year-old female violating the Fisheries Resource Management Act. Considering their deep remorse and the fact that these were livelihood-related crimes, the penalties were reduced to warnings without any objections.

Park Je-su, chief of the Wando Maritime Police Station, stated, “The maritime police will take the lead in establishing maritime law and order and protecting socially vulnerable groups. We will promote law enforcement that resonates with the public by activating the Minor Crime Review Committee and refraining from indiscriminate production of offenders.”
