Park Young-sook, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, "We Must Care Together for Neighbors in Need"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Park Youngsook, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, urged people to look after their neighbors in need during the Chuseok holiday.

On the 22nd, Councilor Park stated in a 5-minute speech at the Seo-gu Council plenary session that the social safety net for welfare blind spots and vulnerable groups must be reorganized.

She began her speech by displaying a video on the screen of National Assembly member Yang Hyangja speaking at the Democratic Party Supreme Council meeting on the 18th regarding a fire caused by elementary school brothers cooking ramen alone.

Councilor Park said, “We are eagerly awaiting the day these brothers will recover healthily,” and added, “There was also a tragic case of a man in his 60s living alone who died in solitude amid the indifference of those around him.”

She continued, “The lives of all district residents have been devastated by COVID-19 and record-breaking heavy rains,” and expressed “deep gratitude to the public officials who have been working tirelessly day and night to respond to the epidemic and recover from the flood damage.”

She emphasized, “Although these are difficult times, it is necessary to once again be vigilant and look around to consider the safety net of our society,” and stressed, “Care for welfare blind spots, vulnerable groups, child community centers, and single-parent families is urgently needed.”
