Ongjin-gun announced on the 22nd that it plans to create the Deokjeokdo Natural Recreation Forest by investing a total of 4 billion KRW by 2022.
To this end, the county secured 1.5 billion KRW for the recreation forest project next year, and to expedite the establishment of the forest, it is currently carrying out administrative procedures such as basic planning and detailed design with a supplementary budget of 300 million KRW for design costs this year.
Deokjeokdo has good accessibility, with passenger ferries operating 2 to 4 round trips daily from Incheon, attracting many tourists.
The county plans to develop a distinctive natural recreation forest where visitors can simultaneously enjoy camping, hiking, and recreational facilities linked with marine tourism such as fishing and mudflat experiences.
Jang Jeongmin, the mayor of Ongjin-gun, stated, "We plan to create a forest where local residents can easily access and enjoy high-quality forest recreation and leisure services in their daily lives," adding, "In the future, we will develop programs that can be linked with nearby tourist spots such as Seopori Beach and prepare unique stay-type accommodations to help revitalize local tourism."
