Audi Provides 'e-tron' Vehicles for Players of FC Bayern Munchen

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Audi announced on the 22nd that it will provide its pure electric vehicle ‘e-tron’ as player cars to FC Bayern Munich, the prestigious football club based in Munich, Germany.

In January, Audi extended its partnership with FC Bayern Munich until 2029, newly including innovative marketing and strategic collaboration in electrification as part of the agenda. As part of this, Audi delivered 19 Audi e-tron vehicles to FC Bayern Munich players on the 19th and completed the installation of e-tron charging stations at the club’s training ground located in Munich. This means that more than half of FC Bayern players will use electric vehicles, making them the first international football team to operate electric cars. The club will significantly contribute to sustainability by reducing CO2 emissions per kilometer driven to below 95g.

The vehicle handover ceremony was held at the Audi training center located at Munich Airport instead of Audi Piazza in Ingolstadt due to COVID-19. The ceremony was attended by coach Hansi Flick, who led the team to the Champions League title last year, captain Manuel Neuer, and top scorer Robert Lewandowski. Afterwards, the coach and players participated in the Audi Driving Experience with the delivered e-tron vehicles, along with a brief orientation on the digital functions of the e-tron.

Hildegard Wortmann, Audi AG Sales and Marketing Director, said, “Audi places the highest importance on realizing sustainable premium mobility in this strategic partnership,” adding, “Audi aims to achieve ‘progress’ together with FC Bayern Munich and convey Audi’s direction and message toward the future of electric vehicles through the delivery of 19 Audi e-tron vehicles.”

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Chairman of FC Bayern Munich AG, said, “FC Bayern Munich has become the first international football team to operate electric vehicles through the partnership with Audi,” and added, “Audi providing Audi e-tron vehicles and dedicated charging stations for the players shows that the partnership between Audi and FC Bayern Munich goes beyond a simple sports sponsorship relationship.”
