KT, Korea Electric Power Corporation, and Others Selected as 'Weather Management Excellence Companies' by Korea Meteorological Administration

Introduction of Weather Information Utilization System and Consulting Services Provided

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Thirty companies, including KT and Korea Electric Power Corporation, were selected as excellent weather management companies by the Korea Meteorological Administration.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, KT achieved continuous sales growth by combining weather-related big data analysis with KT data and providing it.

Korea Electric Power Corporation utilized thunder and lightning information for blackout prevention tasks, reducing the number of failures caused by power outages by 13% and achieving 500 days of uninterrupted operation.

Other excellent cases selected include Ye Eden Farm, which manages milk quality according to the weather, and the Imgae Apple Cooperative Council, which established a joint response system for apple production considering weather conditions.

The Korea Meteorological Administration provides selected excellent companies with benefits such as preferential loan interest rates, promotional support, introduction of information systems for utilizing weather information, and consulting.

Since 2012, a total of 254 companies have been recognized for their achievements.

Kim Jong-seok, head of the Korea Meteorological Administration, said, "If weather management spreads and expands throughout the industry, it can play a role in building the basic strength needed to respond to the climate change challenges we currently face."
