Apology for Confusion Including Server Crash During Pre-Reservation Process
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] Sony has officially apologized for the confusion that occurred during the pre-order process of its next-generation console game 'PlayStation 5 (PS5)' and announced plans to increase the supply.
According to IT media The Verge on the 22nd, Sony Interactive Entertainment apologized for the PS5 pre-order process and revealed plans to supply additional units as soon as possible.
Sony Interactive Entertainment stated on its official Twitter, "We plan to supply more PS5 units for pre-orders within a few days," adding, "More PS5 units will be available by the end of this year."
Sony Interactive Entertainment began PS5 pre-orders on the 18th in the first global sales countries including Korea, the United States, Japan, and Europe. However, consumers expressed dissatisfaction due to server crashes and sold-out chaos during the pre-order process worldwide.
In Korea, Sony Interactive Entertainment Korea started PS5 pre-orders at 12 PM on the 18th, but the product sold out in less than an hour. By 1 PM that day, online and offline partner shopping malls selling PS5 announced that the PS5 was sold out.
The PS5 pre-orders were conducted at 11 online shopping malls including Homeplus, Hi-Mart, SSG.com, and Toys "R" Us, as well as 30 offline partner stores called PS Partner Shops. Most online shopping malls experienced difficulty accessing the site around the start time of the pre-orders, and some malls were completely inaccessible. Some sellers posted notices that pre-orders were postponed due to "internal circumstances" just before the start of sales, but within 10 minutes, another notice was posted stating that pre-orders had resumed, causing confusion.
Meanwhile, the PS5 is scheduled for official release in Korea on November 12. The standard version of the PS5 with a Blu-ray disc drive is priced at 628,000 KRW, while the Digital Edition without a disc drive is priced at 498,000 KRW.
