[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] Kia Motors has decided to resume operations at its Gwangmyeong Sohari Plant 1, which had been completely shut down due to confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
On the 21st, Kia Motors announced that all employees at Plant 1, who were classified as close contacts of confirmed cases and underwent COVID-19 testing, tested negative. Following the health authorities' guidelines, the company will resume normal operations at Plant 1 starting the morning of the 22nd.
As for Plant 2, some employees' test results have not yet been received. Kia Motors plans to keep Plant 2 closed until the morning of the 22nd and will decide on resuming operations later.
Up to now, a total of 11 confirmed cases among Sohari Plant employees were reported until the 19th, with no additional confirmed cases since then. Including family members, a total of 18 people have been confirmed positive.
Kia Motors has completely suspended operations at Plants 1 and 2 from the 16th, when the first confirmed case occurred, until the 21st.
