Seodaemun-gu Wins 'Excellence Award' for Smart City with IoT Convergence Administration


[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) received the Excellence Award at the '2020 Korea Knowledge Innovation Smart City Awards' ceremony held at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul on the afternoon of the 18th.


The district was selected as an award-winning local government in recognition of achievements such as the creation of the nation's first smart walking trail using the Internet of Things (IoT), the establishment of a parking control system for emergency vehicle passage, and the zero light pollution smart lighting system.


Additionally, welfare projects actively integrating information and communication technology received high praise, including welfare visit guidance, the Angel Talk (KakaoTalk) platform for discovering welfare blind spots, the customized welfare search service Seodaemun Bokjumeoni, welfare counseling through the Happiness 1004 Call, the Smart Check-in Service to prevent solitary deaths, and AI-powered companion and welfare check services.


Furthermore, efforts to build a digital education foundation for the Fourth Industrial Revolution era were cited as reasons for the award, including dispatching Teaching Assistants (TA) to support teachers' online teaching capabilities, establishing school wireless communication networks and providing online educational equipment, supporting student laptops, and creating the Seodaemun Convergence Talent Education Center.
