On that day, Chairman Jo Bonghwan of the Small Enterprise and Market Service checked the damage situation on site and met with the merchants of Cheongnyangni Fruit and Vegetable Market to offer consolation.
The fire was reported at around 4:32 a.m. that day. A total of 20 stores were completely or partially destroyed, including 9 stores in Cheongnyangni Traditional Market in Jegi-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, 10 stores in Cheongnyangni Fruit and Vegetable Market, and one warehouse.
Chairman Jo said, "It is especially regrettable that a fire occurred at the traditional market just before the holiday," adding, "We will actively seek support measures to minimize the damage to the affected traditional market and merchants."
