[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] On the 20th, Kim Du-kwan, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, pointed out that the government's and ruling party's plan to provide 20,000 won in nationwide communication fees "does not have a multiplier effect linked to consumer spending."
In an interview on MBN Current Affairs Special that day, Rep. Kim said, "(The 20,000 won communication fee) goes to the three major telecom companies. It is a decision made and agreed upon by the party."
Regarding the selective payment of the second disaster relief fund, he said, "It is technically not easy," and added, "I think it would be better to give disaster relief funds evenly to all citizens and provide additional support to groups or industries that have suffered significant damage."
Rep. Kim also defended Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae against opposition party allegations of preferential military service for her son, saying, "The People Power Party's true intention is to protect the prosecution's vested interests," and "The People Power Party is trying to block prosecution reform, while Minister Choo is at the forefront of reform."
Regarding his potential candidacy in the next presidential election, he said, "The presidency is a position that must be bestowed by heaven; it is not something to be desired," and added, "Although I have not given up on the dream, my primary intention is to play a role in the reestablishment of the democratic progressive reform camp's government."
