[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] On the 20th, Kim Du-kwan, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, analyzed that the opposition party's offensive against the allegations of preferential treatment during the military service of Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae's son "is rooted in the intention to protect the vested interests of the prosecution."

In an interview with MBN's 'Sisa Special' on the 20th, Rep. Kim stated, "The People Power Party is in a position to block prosecution reform, and Minister Choo is at the forefront of reform," asserting this view.

Regarding the earlier remarks by Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, which were interpreted as an indirect criticism of the government as a "dictatorship disguised as democracy," Kim said, "If he made such a political statement, it would be appropriate for him to resign from the position of Prosecutor General and enter politics," reiterating his call for resignation.

About Rep. Yoon Mee-hyang of the Democratic Party, who is on trial for allegations including embezzlement of donations and accounting irregularities related to the Justice and Memory Foundation, Kim said, "The parts the media focused on were not indicted, and many indictments were made on separate charges," adding, "That is very regrettable."

Regarding the ruling party and government’s decision to provide the second emergency disaster relief fund as "customized support," Kim stated, "I thought it would have been better to provide relief funds evenly to all citizens and additionally support the affected groups and industries."

On whether he will run in the 2022 presidential election, he replied, "The presidency is a position that must be bestowed by heaven and should not be desired," adding, "I have not given up on the dream, but primarily, I am determined to play a role in the re-creation of the democratic progressive reform camp's government."

Regarding Lee Nak-yeon, the Democratic Party leader and one of the ruling party’s presidential candidates, Kim said, "He served as the longest-serving prime minister in history and handled major national tasks seriously and prudently," and predicted, "He will serve as party leader for about six months, and if he demonstrates strong leadership, the public will pay attention."

About Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, he evaluated, "He has a lot of policy content and fights well on major issues."
