[Golf Topic] PGA Tour "Special Management for Slow Players"

[Asia Economy Kim Hyun-jun, Golf Specialist Reporter] ○... "Elimination of slow play."

The U.S. Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Tour is specially managing players with slow shots. On the 20th (Korean time), the U.S. Golf Channel reported, "The PGA Tour has created revised pace of play regulations to be implemented in January next year." The 'watch list' for players averaging over 45 seconds per shot across 10 tournaments is noteworthy. Each round limits shots to 60 seconds, and exceeding this results in a 'bad time' warning; upon the second warning, a one-stroke penalty is imposed.

Subsequent accumulations of bad times result in additional one-stroke penalties each time. Players must complete two holes without any bad times to be removed from the list. Fines for players who take excessively long times per shot, such as over 120 seconds, or repeatedly violate the rules have also been significantly increased. The new regulations will take effect starting with the Sentry Tournament at Kapalua Resort Plantation Golf Course on Maui Island, Hawaii, USA, beginning January 7, 2021.
