Lysin Found in Mail Suspected from Canada
U.S. Judicial Authorities Launch Investigation
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] A mail containing the toxic substance 'ricin' was sent from Canada to the White House in the United States, and U.S. judicial authorities reportedly intercepted it.
On the 19th (local time), according to CNN, a mail containing the poison ricin was delivered to U.S. President Donald Trump. This mail was identified after being sorted and screened at an external facility before arriving at the White House.
Some foreign media reported that this mail is presumed to have come from Canada. It is reported that the mail was blocked at a government mail center.
Ricin has been used in terrorist plots and can be utilized in forms such as powder, pills, or sprays. Ricin is a substance extracted from castor beans, and after refinement, an extremely small amount of 0.001g can be lethal to humans.
There have been cases in 2018 and 2014 where ricin was sent in mail form to the U.S. president and others and was detected.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the United States Secret Service, and the Postal Inspection Service are investigating this mail incident.
