[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The 'Diaspora Film Festival,' which tells the hope of coexistence through films, opened non-face-to-face on the afternoon of the 18th at CGV Incheon Yeonsu located in Incheon Square One, starting a five-day schedule.

The 8th Diaspora Film Festival will screen 51 films from 18 countries, including the opening film 'Walking Backwards' (directed by Bang Seongjun).

The short film 'Walking Backwards' captures the charm of Incheon, a space of diversity, set against Yeongjongdo and Chinatown, through the chaotic short journey of three friends. Diaspora Film Festival programmer Lee Hyuksang described it as "a homage to Incheon, full of the heritage of the diaspora."

The opening ceremony, held non-face-to-face via video to prevent the spread of COVID-19, featured congratulatory messages from director Lim Soonrye, chairperson of the Incheon Film Commission, James Lynch, representative of the UNHCR Korea office, actor Jung Woosung, goodwill ambassador of the UNHCR, Diaspora Film Festival programmer and director Lee Hyuksang, and Bang Seongjun, director of the opening film 'Walking Backwards.'

The opening ceremony greeting video can be viewed on the festival's official YouTube channel.

The Diaspora Film Festival is held in compliance with social distancing and quarantine guidelines to prevent and contain COVID-19.

All film viewings are conducted through advance reservations, and the number of audience members in screening rooms is limited to fewer than 50. Additionally, all side events, including audience talks (Cine-talks), outdoor facilities, and exhibitions, have been canceled.

Focusing on film screenings to broadly explore and enjoy the meaning of diaspora, the 8th Diaspora Film Festival is held free of charge at CGV Incheon Yeonsu until the 22nd.
