[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] India’s daily new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) have remained in the 90,000 range for four consecutive days.

India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced on the 19th that 93,337 new COVID-19 cases were added within 24 hours, bringing the total to 5,308,014, and 1,247 new deaths were added, bringing the total to 85,619.

The daily new confirmed cases first exceeded 90,000 on the 6th of this month, and except for the 8th, 9th, and 15th, the number surpassed 90,000 every day.

India’s cumulative COVID-19 confirmed cases currently rank second in the world, following the United States (about 6.92 million, according to Worldometer). India has had the highest number of new daily confirmed cases worldwide for more than five weeks.

Experts predict that if the current trend continues, India will surpass the United States within a few weeks to become the country with the highest cumulative number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the world.
