[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, officially proposed to Yoon Hee-sook, Chairwoman of the People Power Party (formerly the United Future Party), to come out from behind the media and have a public debate.
On the 19th, Governor Lee wrote on Facebook, "Chairwoman Yoon Hee-sook is an economic expert, so you surely know that local currency focuses more on redistribution by scale within industries rather than blocking the inter-regional transfer of consumption," and explained, "To put it more simply, it means that local currency is more about encouraging money that would be spent at Hyundai Department Store or large marts to be spent at the central market or neighborhood stores, rather than just telling people in Seongnam to spend money within Seongnam."
He continued, "Local currency, which protects small business owners and neighborhood markets harmed by the encroachment of large distribution corporations, is one of the Moon Jae-in administration's inclusive policies aimed at alleviating polarization and reviving the economy," adding, "However, you seem to emphasize only the small portion of consumption's regional transfer and deliberately ignore the key element of redistribution by scale. I find it hard to believe that someone educated in economics would be unaware of this."
Furthermore, he proposed a head-to-head debate, saying, "Instead of hiding behind some conservative media that boast about volume and distort facts to defend vested interests and making unreasonable one-sided claims, are you willing to boldly engage in a public debate before the people, which I have proposed multiple times?"
