2 Additional COVID-19 Cases in Daegu... Social Distancing Level 2 Extended for One Week

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Eun-mo] Two new confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Daegu. According to Daegu City on the 19th, as of midnight, the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the region increased by 2 from the previous day to 7,122.

The new confirmed cases are a taxi driver in his 70s and his wife in her 60s, both residing in Nam-gu. It was confirmed that the man in his 70s, who showed suspected COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, operated his taxi from the 7th to the 11th. Daegu City plans to secure the list of 147 passengers since the 24th of last month through taxi card terminal usage records and conduct comprehensive testing.

Meanwhile, the city has decided to extend the 'Daegu-style Social Distancing Level 2' measures, which prohibit gatherings, meetings, and events of 50 or more people indoors and 100 or more people outdoors, for one more week until the 27th. Accordingly, the administrative order mandating mask-wearing for employees and informing users to wear masks will continue to be enforced for five types of multi-use facilities in Daegu, including restaurants and cafes.

However, as the guidance period ends on the 20th, administrative measures such as bans on gatherings will be imposed from the 21st for violations of the administrative order. Additionally, the ban on gatherings, which had been applied only to high-risk multi-use facilities such as clubs, nightclubs, hunting bars, and emotional pubs, will be changed to a gathering restriction, with administrative actions taken if quarantine rules are violated. Furthermore, the city plans to designate the period from the 28th to the 11th of next month as the 'Chuseok Special Quarantine Period' and implement quarantine measures accordingly in preparation for the holiday.
