[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The government has urged the public to strictly adhere to quarantine guidelines as the decline in domestic COVID-19 cases remains slow.
Kang Do-tae, the 1st General Coordinator of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) and Vice Minister of Health and Welfare, stated in his opening remarks at the CDSCH meeting held at the Government Seoul Office that "Although the number of daily confirmed cases is decreasing, the downward trend is progressing slowly," and added, "The metropolitan area still maintains a high proportion of about 75% of the total confirmed cases."
Kang further noted, "According to media reports, accommodation reservations are increasing in major tourist destinations including Gangwon Province and Jeju Island, but contact in crowded tourist spots can increase the risk of infection transmission," and requested, "Please refrain from visiting hometowns and traveling as much as possible during this Chuseok holiday to prevent it from becoming a catalyst for the spread of infection."
He also urged, "When it is unavoidable to visit traditional markets and department stores to prepare Chuseok food and gifts, please strictly follow the quarantine guidelines," and added, "Conduct religious activities online and refrain from visiting multi-use facilities."
Regarding the agenda of the meeting, Kang said, "We will review the status of paid leave and living support payments provided to confirmed cases and those in self-quarantine," and stated, "We will do our best to provide support as quickly as possible to alleviate the financial difficulties during the isolation period, even if only slightly."
