Goheung-gun Opens Unconstructed Road After Receiving Land Use Consent for the First Time in 15 Years

Goheung-gun Opens Unconstructed Road After Receiving Land Use Consent for the First Time in 15 Years

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Through persistent efforts by Goheung County, a long-delayed resident wish project has finally come to fruition after 15 years.

Jeonnam Goheung County announced that it has completed the widening and paving construction of the 720m unconstructed section of County Road No. 18 between Gwaryeok Dokdae and Seulhang in Gwaryeok-myeon, a long-standing wish project, by investing 1.1 billion KRW, and held an opening ceremony on the 18th.

The newly opened road between Gwaryeok Dokdae and Seulhang is a major route with rural buses operating four round trips daily, but due to its narrow single lane and poor alignment, it caused great inconvenience not only to local residents but also to tourists visiting Goheung, including risks of traffic accidents.

County Governor Song Gwigeun, during a dialogue with Gwaryeok residents, received urgent requests for the road construction and promised to promptly implement the project after obtaining landowners' consent.

In this regard, the county persistently persuaded 11 landowners residing outside the area through multiple visits, ultimately obtaining land use consent after 15 years.

With the opening of this long-awaited road, local residents expressed their welcome and gratitude, stating that the risks of traffic accidents caused by large vehicles on the narrow road have been resolved, and problems of flooding in houses and farmland due to poor drainage during rain have been simultaneously addressed.

Additionally, Goheung County is currently implementing a two-lane widening project on three sites, including the Namyangjangdam to Wolak road, where rural bus routes are single-lane and unmaintained, making vehicle passing difficult and road alignment poor, requiring maintenance.

A county official stated, “We will continue to actively discover projects that cause inconvenience or are needed by residents and strive to contribute to improving residents' convenience.”
