Supreme Court Rejects Recusal Request for 'Lee Jae-yong Trial Panel'... "No Grounds to Doubt Fairness"

[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The Supreme Court dismissed the recusation request filed by the special prosecutor team led by Park Young-soo against the trial panel handling Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong's 'state affairs manipulation case.'

On the 18th, the Supreme Court's 2nd Division (Presiding Justice Noh Jung-hee) dismissed the appeal in the case where the special prosecutor team led by Park Young-soo had filed a recusation request against the Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul High Court, the panel handling Vice Chairman Lee's retrial, stating that they could not accept the court's decision to dismiss the request.

The court ruled, "It is difficult to find any objective circumstances that would reasonably justify suspicion that the judge would conduct an unfair trial, nor are there any objective circumstances that would raise doubts about the fairness of the trial."
