Gwangju Seo-gu Character 'Haeoni' Advances to Finals in Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Our Neighborhood Character Contest

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] ‘Haeoni,’ the character of Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Seodaeseok), has passed the preliminary round of the ‘3rd Our Neighborhood Character Awards’ hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and advanced to the final competition stage.

More than 100 institutions nationwide participated in this competition to select the best regional and public characters in Korea.

In the preliminary round, which was conducted through an online public vote until the 10th, a total of 32 characters (16 in the regional category and 16 in the public category), including Seo-gu’s Haeoni, advanced to the finals after fierce competition.

The 32 teams of characters advancing to the finals will be selected through an online final vote, with about 16 works chosen in total: 12 in the regional and public categories and 4 in the common category.

The final voting will take place on the ‘Our Neighborhood Character’ website from the 21st of this month to the 5th of next month. After identity verification, voters can vote for one character in the regional category and one character in the public category.

A Seo-gu official said, “We are grateful to everyone who provided this great opportunity so that Haeoni can be loved by many people nationwide,” and added, “We ask for your interest and votes so that Haeoni can achieve good results in the finals as well.”
