[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Despite the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), Doosan Mobility Innovation (DMI) is accelerating its market penetration by participating both online and offline in global drone expos in the United States, China, and other countries.
According to industry sources on the 18th, DMI exhibited its hydrogen fuel cell packs and hydrogen drones at the "Commercial UAV Expo" held in Las Vegas, USA. Due to the ongoing spread of COVID-19 in the United States, the expo is being held online. The organizers created a separate exhibition booth page for DMI, introducing it as "the first company in the world to mass-produce hydrogen drones capable of flying up to 2 hours."
DMI is actively promoting by uploading demonstrations and videos related to on-site detection featuring the DP30 hydrogen fuel cell pack, which enables 2-hour flights, and the DT30 hydrogen drone. Notably, DMI CEO Doo-soon Lee was invited as a speaker for this event and gave a one-hour presentation on the "Drone Industry Outlook" from 4 PM to 5 PM local time on the 17th. Hydrogen fuel cells are characterized by easy detachment and replacement and can fly for more than 2 hours, significantly longer than battery drones, which typically last only 20 to 30 minutes.
Prior to this, DMI's China branch also participated in the 2020 Drone Expo held in Shenzhen, China, from the 13th to the 15th. The Drone Expo is the largest event of its kind worldwide, attended by over 200 drone manufacturers and related companies and more than 18,000 participants. DMI showcased the DP30 hydrogen fuel cell pack and the DT30, the world's first integrated hydrogen drone new product, at a 192㎡ booth. DMI's hydrogen drones DS30 and DP30 won the Best Innovation Award and Innovation Award, respectively, at CES 2020, the world's largest IT and electronics expo held earlier this year.
DMI's strategy is to lead the hydrogen drone market by promoting its hydrogen fuel cell packs at various online and offline expos. The global drone market, including military, consumer, and industrial uses, is expected by the industry to grow more than 15% annually and reach a scale of 24 trillion KRW by 2025. In addition to hydrogen drones, since early this year, DMI has been collaborating with IT companies such as Microsoft in the United States to develop drone software and monitoring solutions. An industry insider assessed, "Since DMI possesses world-class hydrogen fuel cell pack technology, it appears to be accelerating efforts to secure market share in advanced drone countries."
