[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his intention to send Dennis Rodman, a former NBA player, as a liaison ambassador to North Korea. This statement has drawn attention as it comes amid recent U.S. emphasis on dialogue with North Korea, mentioning humanitarian aid.
On the 17th (local time), President Trump appeared on Fox News Radio and said, "Kim Jong-un, Chairman of North Korea, is a fan of Rodman. I am considering using Rodman as a liaison ambassador between the U.S. and North Korea."
President Trump reiterated, "Rather than someone from Harvard University, we should send Rodman to North Korea."
Dennis Rodman has shown a friendly relationship by leading a goodwill basketball team to visit North Korea and meeting with Chairman Kim. During the 2018 Singapore North Korea-U.S. summit, he visited Singapore and expressed his desire to participate in the summit himself.
Rodman also has a close relationship with President Trump. During his 2017 visit to North Korea, he gifted President Trump's book, The Art of the Deal, to Chairman Kim's side.
Last year, Rodman appeared on a podcast hosted by boxer Mike Tyson, mentioning that he had a wild night during a dinner with Chairman Kim on his first visit to North Korea.
