[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] As Wando-gun's "Movement Stop" campaign, which requests refraining from traveling to and from hometowns during the Chuseok holiday to prevent the spread of COVID-19, gains nationwide attention, the hometown pride of Wando-gun's diaspora is shining and setting an example.
According to Wando-gun on the 17th, six hometown associations (in Seoul, Gwangju, Incheon, Ansan, Jeju, and Mokpo) announced a joint appeal on the 4th to refrain from traveling to and from hometowns during the Chuseok holiday, and are actively promoting the campaign through member communities and social media.
Through this, they are garnering consensus among 300,000 diaspora nationwide and are being recognized as a model case by hometown associations in other local governments.
Meanwhile, the hometown associations are also taking the lead in revitalizing the local economy of their hometowns, which will be appointed due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation and the restraint from traveling during the Chuseok holiday.
Each hometown association has issued appeals to promote the campaign "Express gratitude with Wando specialty products as Chuseok gifts," and they are conducting practical purchasing activities by receiving purchase applications directly from members.
This is effectively raising awareness of the excellence of Wando specialty products not only among the diaspora but also nationwide.
The 300,000 diaspora of Wando-gun expressed through the appeal, "Although we cannot visit our hometown this Chuseok, we hope that the hometown love of our diaspora will be conveyed so that parents, relatives, and everyone protecting our hometown can have a happy and abundant Chuseok."
The "Movement Stop" campaign urgently requires the formation of consensus and active participation from both residents and the diaspora.
