Visit to Changwon National Industrial Complex as the Fourth On-Site Visit of the Korean New Deal... Participated in Gas Turbine Demonstration at Doosan Heavy Industries
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] President Moon Jae-in visited the Changwon Industrial Complex and expressed expectations for the 'Smart Green Industrial Complex.'
The Blue House announced on the 17th, "President Moon Jae-in presided over the ‘Smart Green Industrial Complex Report Meeting’ at the Changwon National Industrial Complex and visited tenant companies in the complex (such as Taerim Industry and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction)."
The Smart Green Industrial Complex project aims to create a future-oriented innovative industrial complex that integrates green industries at an advanced stage, beyond the basic stage of individual companies' smartization (smart factories) and the development stage of industrial complexes' smartization (smart complexes) in the manufacturing innovation process of industrial complexes.
This event is the fourth on-site visit related to the Korean New Deal following the comprehensive plan announcement on July 14, including ▲Data Dam (June 18) ▲Green Energy and Offshore Wind Power (July 17) ▲Green Smart School (August 18).
The Blue House explained, "By visiting the Changwon Industrial Complex, which has excellent conditions to quickly transition existing industrial complexes into ‘Smart Green Industrial Complexes,’ this visit aims to officially announce the full-scale promotion of the ‘Smart Green Industrial Complex’ both domestically and internationally."
President Moon urged that Changwon Industrial Complex successfully lead the transition to a Smart Green Industrial Complex as quickly as possible, playing a pioneering role in driving changes in other industrial complexes. He also expressed hope that Changwon would become a world-class industrial cluster model as Korea’s representative K-Smart Green Industrial Complex.
President Moon emphasized the solidarity and cooperation of local economic actors to revitalize the regional economy, which has been struggling due to the COVID-19 situation, by creating more jobs through the spirit of coexistence and joint efforts between labor and management.
Before the event, President Moon visited Taerim Industry, which has been manufacturing automotive parts in the Changwon Industrial Complex for over 30 years. He listened to explanations about their research and development efforts through smartization and toured the smart factory, encouraging workers on site. A data center for inter-company data analysis and sharing is planned to be established at Taerim Industry.
Meanwhile, President Moon visited the gas turbine factory of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, a company promoting the Green New Deal in the Changwon Industrial Complex, and received a briefing on the status of renewable energy projects such as hydrogen and offshore wind power, which Doosan is focusing on as new strategic fields, as well as the power generation gas turbine business.
The Blue House stated, "After hearing about the development status of the large-scale (270MW class) gas turbine, which was developed domestically for the first time through public-private joint research, President Moon directly participated in the gas turbine blade assembly demonstration and encouraged developers and production site workers," adding, "The gas turbine industry is a promising sector with high growth potential as LNG power generation becomes an increasingly important power source to maintain stable power supply in the era of energy transition."
