Gangdong-gu Supports Events to Revitalize Angel Workshop Street and Enhance Residents' Cultural Life Enjoyment
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is supporting the '2020 Angel Workshop Street Craft Week Event' as a craft healing program for residents exhausted by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Angel Workshop is a project that supports young people with ideas, skills, and passion but lacking funds by providing rental deposits, interior costs, and monthly rent for one year after opening.
The district has renovated the area around Seongan-ro, which was a cluster of illicit businesses, into Angel Workshop Street.
Currently, 21 workshops with various themes such as handmade crafts, desserts, and chopsticks are operating, transforming Seongan-ro from a 'street of harmful businesses with rampant illicit cafes' into a 'cultural and artistic street where people want to walk.'
The event will be held for about two weeks from the 18th to the 27th in celebration of Craft Week 2020. It is hosted and organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft & Design Foundation, planned and operated by Ondo City Cooperative, and supported by Gangdong-gu Office, with public-private cooperation driving the event.
The main contents include ▲ an online exhibition of representative works from Angel Workshop ▲ social economy and startup talk shows ▲ production of Angel Healing Kits for Angel Workshop experiences ▲ offline exhibition zone at Gangdong-gu Office Building 2, providing various cultural contents to residents tired from the prolonged COVID-19 situation through online and offline channels, and promoting Gangdong-gu Angel Workshop in various ways.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “The district is leading residential environment improvement and job creation through social economy methods with the Angel Workshop project,” and added, “I hope this event will further activate Angel Workshop Street and provide residents with a warm opportunity to be healed through culture and arts.”
The district plans to make further efforts to revitalize Seongan-ro by continuously expanding Angel Workshop and improving the sidewalk environment.
