[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Samsung Electronics unveiled the production press conference of the 8K movie "Untact," filmed with Galaxy smartphones and viewed on QLED TVs, online on the 17th.
Leading the 8K ecosystem, Samsung Electronics has embarked on a film production project titled "Filmed in 8K and Viewed in 8K" to allow consumers to experience the 8K ecosystem in their daily lives.
The movie "Untact" is a romance film reflecting a society where non-face-to-face interactions are the norm. Renowned Korean filmmaker Kim Ji-woon personally wrote and directed the film. The lead roles are cast with Kim Go-eun and Kim Joo-hun, who are expected to deliver a lively message of hope about communication.
Samsung Electronics explained that the film is significant in completing 8K technology through Galaxy's ultra-high-definition cameras and QLED TV's large screen.
Except for some special shots, most scenes were filmed using the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 in 16:9 ratio 8K video, and the ultra-large QLED 8K, which perfectly realizes 8K quality, allows viewers to vividly enjoy the director's intended visual beauty and the actors' detailed performances.
The production press conference was hosted by Park Kyung-rim, with director Kim Ji-woon and actors Kim Go-eun and Kim Joo-hun attending to introduce the film and express their aspirations and expectations for participating in the new method of producing an 8K movie.
Samsung Electronics plans to open "8K Cinema" in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo-gu, and Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul in October to showcase the completed film, and it will also be available through online channels such as YouTube.
Operating on a small-scale reservation basis with the concept of the world's smallest theater, the 8K Cinema applications can be submitted from September 17 to October 2 via Samsung Electronics' social network service (SNS) event page.
Yoon Tae-sik, Executive Vice President of Marketing at Samsung Electronics Korea, said, "The movie 'Untact' is an 8K film completed with master director Kim Ji-woon based on the 8K ecosystem led by Samsung Electronics. We will continue to make various efforts so that anyone can easily enjoy the amazing experience of capturing daily life as it is in 8K and watching it like a movie."
The production press conference for the movie "Untact" can be viewed on Samsung Electronics' YouTube channel from 11 a.m. on the same day.
