[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] On the 16th, it was announced that a plaque ceremony for creating a green village without open burning of forest fires was held at the Daedong Village Hall in Chogye-myeon, Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam, with the village chief and residents in attendance.

This year, three villages, including Daedong Village in Chogye-myeon, Hapcheon-gun, were selected as excellent villages.

In Daedong Village, Chogye-myeon, selected this year, from February to May, residents voluntarily participated in forest fire prevention activities centered around the village chief, including agreeing and pledging not to burn rice paddies and field ridges.

As a result, Daedong Village earned the honor of being selected as a green village without open burning of forest fires by preventing any forest fires this year without a single fine imposed.

Lee Haeng-gi, head of Chogye-myeon, said, "Congratulations on being selected as a village without open burning of forest fires," and added, "I thank the residents for their efforts so far and ask them to take the lead in making Chogye-myeon a village without open burning of forest fires as a leading village in forest fire prevention."

Meanwhile, the project to create green villages without open burning of forest fires is a program implemented by the Korea Forest Service since 2014 to prevent illegal burning of rice paddies, field ridges, and agricultural and forestry by-products, which are major causes of forest fires, and to strengthen forest fire prevention publicity and education.
