[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] Jo Eung-cheon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, said regarding the allegations involving Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae's son, "This is no longer a stage where we can just let it go," sparking fierce criticism from 'Moonppa' (a term mocking those who blindly support President Moon Jae-in). There are even calls for him to switch parties to the People Power Party instead of the Democratic Party. Furthermore, he has faced collective criticism, including harsh insults, simply for mentioning 'fairness' in relation to the allegations involving Minister Choo's son.

In an interview with Shindonga on the 14th, Rep. Jo stated, "What started as a question of whether the leave was properly processed has now expanded to suspicions including requests for interpreter assignments and unit placements," adding, "Since various testimonies and evidence are emerging, the correct approach is to reveal everything as it is and reach a conclusion quickly."

He continued, "Even just being a KATUSA (Korean Augmentation To the United States Army) can be viewed unfavorably by the general public, but if you say 'he just enjoyed the sweet life there,' it becomes a matter of 'fairness' for men in their 20s and 30s who recently completed military service," and criticized, "Although this is not a big enough issue to warrant a special prosecutor, Minister Choo's provocative responses such as saying 'You're writing fiction' at the National Assembly's Judiciary Committee or plenary session early on made things worse." He further pointed out, "I think this is like a bill coming due for the remarks Minister Choo has made so far."

In another media interview, Rep. Jo also criticized Minister Choo, saying, "Recently, when I saw her answering questions in the National Assembly, it was not just the content but her attitude that was very uncomfortable," and added, "It seems she has a kind of self-assurance and confirmation bias."

While some ruling party figures have voiced support for Minister Choo, 'Moonppa' have unleashed harsh criticism against Rep. Jo for his critical remarks, saying things like "Jo Eung-cheon again? Go to the People Power Party." On an online community where supporters of President Moon gather, some urged him to change his party affiliation, saying, "I wish he would stop playing the 'X man' role. Is he still in the Democratic Party?"

There are even outright insults. One supporter of President Moon said, "Jo Eung-cheon, you XX, go make those claims in the People Power Party. Why are you saying such things in the Democratic Party?" repeatedly urging him to switch parties.

Meanwhile, criticism has also been directed at former Rep. Geum Tae-seop, who condemned Rep. Hwang Hee of the Democratic Party for calling the then-serving military personnel who first raised the special treatment allegations regarding Minister Choo's son a 'lone culprit,' asking, "Are you in your right mind?"

On the 12th, former Rep. Geum strongly criticized Rep. Hwang on his Facebook, saying, "Is it sane to call a single person, a 20-something youth who claims facts unfavorable to the Minister of Justice, a lone culprit?" This remark has also drawn strong criticism.

A Democratic Party supporter said, "Those who cannot see the truth of the case cannot work for the people," and added, "I recommend you go to the People Power Party."

Meanwhile, Minister Choo expressed regret over the various controversies surrounding her son but reiterated her commitment to prosecutorial reform. On the 13th, she posted on her Facebook, "I am sorry for causing concern due to issues during my son's military service. First, I sincerely apologize to the people," but also stated, "I believe it is the will of the people and my fateful duty to carry out prosecutorial reform without wavering. I will definitely complete prosecutorial reform."
