KF, KF-Europe Next Generation Policy Experts Online Forum on 16-18

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Korea Foundation (KF) announced on the 16th that it will jointly hold the ‘2020 KF-Europe Next Generation Policy Experts Forum’ with Chatham House in the UK via online video conference until the 18th.

The forum is expected to be attended by key figures including Lee Geun, Chairman of KF, Champa Patel, Head of the Asia-Pacific Program at Chatham House, Michael Reiterer, former Ambassador of the EU to Korea, and Martin Uden, former Ambassador of the UK to Korea.

This forum is the first phase of the 4th term program targeting the European region of the KF Next Generation Policy Experts Network. Promising next-generation opinion leaders from prestigious institutions such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the British Council, and the Dutch think tank Clingendael are participating.

Under the keywords ‘International Relations in the Pandemic Era’ and ‘Democracy,’ the forum consists of four sessions: △Keynote Session (Korea-EU Relations), △Session 1 (COVID-19, Public Policy and Changes in International Relations), △Session 2 (Resilience of Democracy and Civic Participation), and △Alumni Session.

Ramon Pacheco-Pardo, who will participate as a discussant in Session 2, began with the KF Visiting Research Fellowship in Korea in 2008, participated in the first term of the program in 2015, and took part in the 3rd Korea-EU Forum in 2017. He was later appointed as the KF-VUB Korea Chair at the Free University of Brussels. Having sequentially experienced KF’s next-generation development courses, he has become a distinguished Korea expert and will attend this forum as a field expert to help nurture the next generation of Korea specialists.

Lee Geun, Chairman of KF, said, “This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership between Korea and the EU, making this forum even more meaningful,” and added, “Although the spread of COVID-19 continues, we will not stop efforts to discover and nurture the next generation of Korean experts in Europe.”
