[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Apple has unveiled two iPads in the 10-inch range. The stars are the iPad Air 4 equipped with the latest chipset and the mid-range iPad 8th generation.

On the 15th (local time), Apple revealed the 10.9-inch iPad Air 4 and the 10.2-inch iPad 8th generation. The iPad Air 4 will go on sale starting next month, while the iPad 8th generation will be available from today.

Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, explained, "The iPad Air 4 offers a larger 10.9-inch display, next-generation Touch ID, and the A14 Bionic chip, delivering powerful pro features at a reasonable price. This iPad Air forms our most robust iPad lineup yet, providing customers with more ways to enrich their daily lives."

The iPad Air 4 is equipped with the latest 10.9-inch A14 Bionic chip. The A14 improves CPU performance by 40% and graphics processing by 30% compared to its predecessor, enabling 4K video editing. With the home button removed, the Touch ID sensor is integrated into the power button. The speakers provide stereo sound even in landscape mode. It features a 7-megapixel front camera and a 12-megapixel rear camera. The connector has been changed to USB-C. Memory options are 64GB and 256GB, and colors include green and sky blue, bringing the total to five. The domestic launch price of the iPad Air 4 starts at 779,000 KRW for the Wi-Fi model and 949,000 KRW for the cellular model.

The iPad 8th generation features a 10.2-inch screen and is equipped with the A12 Bionic chip, improving CPU performance by 40% over the previous generation. Its overall design is similar to the 7th generation and supports the Apple Pencil. The iPad 8th generation enables augmented reality (AR) apps to perform person occlusion (realistically rendering AR content in front of and behind people), motion tracking, and enhanced photo editing. The domestic launch price is 449,000 KRW for the Wi-Fi model and 619,000 KRW for the cellular model. The education version starts at 419,000 KRW.

Alongside this, Apple will support iPadOS 14 starting from the 16th (local time). FaceTime and incoming call screens have been simplified, and it is easier to quickly find apps, contacts, and files. Various apps such as Photos and Files have added sidebars, and home widgets have been upgraded. iPadOS 14 will be pre-installed on the iPad Air 4 and iPad 8th generation, with earlier models receiving updates sequentially.
