Full-Scale Launch of Academic Research Service to Build Social Economy Ecosystem... Development of Regional-Specialized Social Economy Models Through Discovery of New Business Models

Gangdong-gu Draws Blueprint for Social Economy Revitalization Plan

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is starting an academic research project to build a social economy ecosystem in order to explore a Gangdong-type social economy model and measures to revitalize enterprises, and to prepare a policy roadmap.

This research project is to diagnose the achievements of the past 10 years since the enactment of the Gangdong-gu Social Economy Activation Ordinance and to seek more practical policies and directions for autonomous development.

Also, a major goal is to develop a roadmap for a Gangdong-type specialized social economy ecosystem.

Currently, there are nearly 173 social economy enterprises in Gangdong-gu, showing an average annual growth rate of 20% in the number of social economy enterprises since the database (DB) of social economy enterprises was created in 2012.

The Hope Institute Foundation was selected as the research contractor and will conduct the research from August to November 2020. The district plans to reflect this in the 2021 Gangdong-gu Social Economy Basic Plan to keep pace with the changing social economy policies.

The main research contents include ▲ investigation of the current status of the Gangdong-gu social economy ecosystem and the operation status of social economy enterprises ▲ discovery of a Gangdong-type social economy activation model ▲ presentation of a roadmap for revitalizing social economy enterprises and realizing social objectives.

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “I hope to find ways for our district’s specialized projects such as Gucheonmyeon-ro Walkable Street, Kangpul Cartoon Street, and Angel Workshop Street to develop together with Gangdong-gu,” and added, “We will identify the current status and limitations of the Gangdong-gu social economy and seek the future to make greater efforts to create a social economy-friendly city.”
